If you are not aware, nonstick cookware is not like cast iron and stainless steel, the coating will begin to become less effective over time. There is no stopping this gradual decrease, but there are many ways to prolong this:

In order to understand this a bit better, you should try to understand the nature of nonstick cookware.
Unlike stainless steel or cast iron not stick is actually a coating that has been added to something like aluminum. This means that while it is bonded to the surface it is not actually part of the surface.

This coating is actually quite thin compared to the rest of the pan and so as I am sure you can see now that you will need to take good care of this coating.

How can I make my cookware last longer?

Here are a number of tips that will help you:

  • Never put your pans in the dishwasher – The cleaning process in a dishwasher is quite robust and will shorten the lifespan of your pans and pans.
  • Never use abrasive cleaning materials on your nonstick pans – I am sure that you can see that this is not going to keep the pan in mint condition
  • Always use the correct utensils when cooking. you don’t want to scratch your pans while you are cooking.
  • Where and how you store your pans will also make a big difference – If you need to store pans on top of each other, why not add a paper towel or two between to make sure there is no contact between the two.

Modern technology has given us a wide range to choose from, there are many types of nonstick pans now, some are more resistant than others, we have talked about ceramic cookware and even Teflon cookware in other articles.

They all still follow the same principle, they are a coating and like all coating will actually wear out over time with use. This is an important factor to understand.
